Harvey Firestone started the Firestone Tire Company in Akron, OH, in 1900. From the beginning, Firestone was always committed to being ahead of the curve. Responsible for the invention of the non-skid tread, they set out to win 25 consecutive Indy 500 victories by 1948, and from there, the Firestone racing legacy was well established. By 1955 Firestone produced 1M pounds of rubber a day and was the largest producer of rubber in the world.
